Cub Scout Adult Leader Training

In the Cub Scout program, the adults make most of the program decisions, do all of the planning, and are heavily involved in program presentation. Given this situation, the Cub Scout program has a lot of documentation and resources to assist the adults and Cub Scout Adult Leader Training not only familiarizes you with these resources, but provides insights and tips (based on lessons learned) of how to avoid problems and maximize positive results.

To earn the adult leader Trained strip, the adult volunteer must complete the following courses:

  • Youth Protection [OLC]
  • Cub Scout Leader Specific [Classroom]

To take Cub Scouts on outdoor events, BSA recommends the following supplemental courses (some of which are required to obtain a tour permit... an RTP):

  • Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) [RTP]
  • Hazardous Weather [RTP]
  • Outdoor Leadership Skills for Webelos Leaders

There are also age-appropriate activity safety courses, including American Red Cross approved training.
